Project Overview

Working with Alabama Power Company is a very unique experience. I can with out a doubt count on excellence in safety, job site preparation, and team readiness every time. I love the fact that Alabama Power goes over even the smallest details, for example; where the closest hospital is and who will be the transport person. This is what I call valuing people and the families they are trying to support! This project is located in Trussville, Alabama on Chalkville Mountain Road behind the Dairy Queen. If you have ever traveled the road behind these business you can’t help but to ask how in the world did all that construction equipment in this small area. I will tell you that I was even amazed by the maneuvering capabilities of the Liebherr LTM 1300: 350 Ton crane. Alabama Power has a very unique piece of equipment as well, a low boy trailer called Bonnie. This trailer has multiple pivot points and a rear hydraulic steering system that made this tight project look so simple that even a lay person could do it. Once the project began the overall process only took a few hours to replace the transformer. Alabama power crews worked diligently disconnecting/ reconnecting power lines and maneuvering/ positioning  the old and new transformers in place.

Job Site Details

This transformer project required our Liebherr LTM 1300: 350 Ton crane. This crane has exceptional maneuverability in tight places and enough muscle to handle the 90,000 lbs transformer. Setup is also quick and easy with this crane!  Once all three flat bed loads of counter weights are installed and the block line partition is set correctly, this crane is ready to go to work. I love bragging on this crane and its hard not to with the exceptional quality Liebherr engineered into this machine. Overall this project was executed flawlessly and safely while everyone worked together as a team.
